Buenos Aires, March 6 (NA) — On the 16th anniversary of the femicide of Wanda Taddei, the young woman who was murdered in February 2010 by the drummer of Callejeros, Eduardo Vázquez, she will be honored with a mural that was inaugurated this Friday in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Mataderos, in the presence of the young woman's family who insisted on the demand that the femicide not be granted temporary release. In an interview with the Argentine News Agency, Jorge Taddei, the victim's father, confirmed that the event took place starting at 6:30 PM at the intersection of Directorio and Araujo: "We did a very good job because women's groups from different unions and organizations from all over the country will participate." "We need a significant turnout at this time when femicides are on the rise and the possible temporary release of Vázquez," states the call made by Jorge and his wife Beatriz. In this sense, the 84-year-old man indicated that emails were sent to Axel López, the judge of Criminal Execution No. 3, about the mobilization with the aim of not granting the benefit to the murderer. Vázquez is on a one-year probation list after the magistrate denied his request in 2021, 2023, and 2024. Both Jorge and Beatriz Regal, Wanda's mother, witnessed the inauguration surrounded by loved ones, holding signs and leaflets that read "Ni una menos" (Not one less). The giant photograph showed the victim with her pet, the legend "Love does not kill," and several butterflies surrounding her. On February 10, 2010, the victim and the aggressor were in their home, where they argued and the musician used a lighter to cause severe burns to the young woman. Wanda was taken to the Santojanni Hospital by her partner, but due to the extent of her injuries, she was transferred to the Burns Sanatorium, where she died after being hospitalized for eleven days. In June 2012, the Oral Criminal Court No. 20 of the Federal Capital sentenced Vázquez to 18 years in prison for the crime of qualified homicide by relationship, mitigated by its commission in a state of violent emotion. This sentence was unified with the penalties for the Cromañon tragedy, which occurred on December 30, 2004, and for the possession of marijuana plants. On September 18, 2013, after the appeal of the prosecution and the review of the ruling, the Court of Cassation dismissed the existence of that mitigating factor and aggravated the sentence to life imprisonment.
